Jemma Dupree is tired of other people running her life. Following the death of her wastrel husband, Jemma and Claire, her ostentatious mother-in-law, move to Loving, Michigan. After helping Claire get her small boutique up and running, Jemma is ready to strike out on her own, but everywhere she turns she runs into Philip, Claire's wealthy cousin. It seems Philip has taken up Jemma's cause, offering her a job and helping her find an apartment. Despite the fact that she resents his help, Jemma is enamored with the handsome, older man, and the more time she spends with Philip, the more she cares for him. Though Philip's age is not a factor to her, his spiritual status is.

The moment he meets Jemma, Philip Somerville is smitten. Though he knows it's improper for a man his age to care for a woman so much younger, Philip can't squelch his desire to spend time with Jemma. If he only can help the charming young widow get on her feet, then maybe he'll be satisfied. Philip is ecstatic when Jemma agrees to come to work at the resort he owns. But his plan to keep Jemma near him soon backfires, and Philip is left wondering if he'll ever again see the woman who's stolen his heart.

Loving Treasures is a charming, modern day story of Ruth and Boaz. Ms. Martin's characters come alive and their emotions are laid open for all to see. Philip's struggle with the age issue is very realistic, and I ached with him on many occasions. Claire's flamboyant character was delightfully enchanting. Gail Gaymer Martin has taken a controversial situation and penned a heart touching romance making Loving Treasures an absolute delight to read. I eagerly look forward to reading the sequel.
