Life for Ellen Hern has taken an ironic twist. Once the scourge of Daltonville, West Virginia, and the destitute daughter of a convicted murderer, Ellen is returning to her hometown a wealthy woman. She is the new owner of Arrowwood Estate, the childhood home of Lane Dalton, the only man she has ever loved.
When Lane’s wealthy parents gave him an ultimatum to break off his relationship with Ellen or else, he avoided choosing between them and enlisted in the Army. Ellen was devastated by Lane’s abandonment. She fled Daltonville, leaving her faith in God and people behind.
Nine years have passed and Ellen is returning, still wounded and bitter over past events. She recently discovered her dead husband may have been involved in racketeering and was possibly murdered, so she agrees to work with undercover officials to try to search out the truth. When Ellen hears mysterious noises in the middle of the night and strange events begin to occur, she turns back to God – and to Lane Dalton. As the mystery deepens and Lane and Ellen become close again, Ellen is shocked to find out that Lane is a suspect. Is it possible the man she is falling in love with again could be behind all of her recent troubles? Will Ellen ever find peace and happiness?
Love Almost Lost is an intriguing story of suspense, romance, and faith. This emotionally charged tale of a young woman, bitter about her past, contains a powerful message of forgiveness and restoration. Irene Brand does an excellent job portraying the early l900’s time period. I don’t know that I’ve read a book in this era before, and I found it fascinating. Love Almost Lost holds a thrilling mystery that unfolds right before your eyes, with spine-tingling danger and heart-throbbing romance. Be sure to pick a copy.
