Title: Looking For A Miracle Author: Wanda E. Brunstetter Publisher: Barbour ISBN 1-59789-299-8 Genre: Inspirational/Romance
Rebekah Stolzfus suffered a freak accident as a child which left her paralyzed from the waist down. Now Rebekah is nineteen years old and stuck in a wheelchair. Bitter from being left out, and upset because she’s going to be an old maid, Rebekah takes life on with a scowl, alienating those around her.
Rebekah’s best friend, Mary Ellen, is being courted by several young men, and one of them, Daniel Beachy, seems to have lost Mary Ellen. However, he still keeps coming around and spending time with Rebekah. Rebekah thinks its only because he feels sorry for her, and she’s not interested in pity. What man would want a wife in a wheelchair?
When Mary Ellen comes up with an idea for Rebekah to start her own business and become more independent, Rebekah is thrilled. But then her family loses its barn during a thunderstorm. Will Rebekah get the greenhouse she needs if her family needs a new barn?
Looking For A Miracle is a lengthened reprint of one of Ms. Brunstetter’s Heartsong Presents. The original version was one of my favorite contemporary Heartsong Presents during that time – and I love this reprint just as much.
Rebekah is a realistic heroine and I grew to care about her dilemma, even though I wanted her to get over herself. Daniel is a sweet hero, kind and considerate. We could have used more in Daniel’s point of view, but there is enough to know what he’s like. The secondary characters strengthen the story, and the Pennsylvania Dutch country side is always a winner as the setting.
I thoroughly enjoyed Looking For A Miracle and highly recommend this book. Even though it is second in the Brides of Lancaster County series, it easily stands alone. Pick up your copy today. An Amish recipe is included at the end of the book. $12.95. 288 pages.
