Title: Lightning And Lace Author: DiAnn Mills Publisher: Barbour ISBN: 1-5978-9357-9 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Fiction
Bonnie Kahler is struggling to raise her three children on her own after the death of their father. She’s also relying heavily on alcohol to get her through the day. Her oldest son, Zack, is a known trouble maker, and Bonnie is the only one who doesn’t seem to see that. Even after continued threats that Zack will be kicked out of school, Bonnie continues to take her child’s side.
Travis Whitworth is a minister, forced out of his previous congregation because of a scandal involving a brothel. His arrival in Kahlerville, Texas, doesn’t go as smoothly as he expects though. When going to his new church, Travis comes across a fight between teen boys. Travis breaks it up, but then he is accused of threatening the boys. Bonnie threatens to have him run out of town when she learns he’s the new minister.
Travis is attracted to Bonnie, but he’s sworn off to all women. But he has to reach out and help the struggling widow and her family. Zack needs a firm male to help guide him, and Bonnie has many difficulties, including her alcoholism. Will Travis be able to help Bonnie and Zack find their way, and maybe even find love in the process?
Lightning And Lace is t he final book in the Texas Legacy series, and it easily stands alone. I had the privilege of reading all the books in this series, and Lightning And Lace provides a wonderful conclusion to this series.
Lightning And Lace is a well-written sweet romance, longer than a typical Heartsong Presents, but yet the focus is romance. Travis is a realistic hero, though he does try to hide from dangerous situations, like when he arrived in town disguised as a poor homeless man. Bonnie is headstrong and at first, argumentive. I was wondering how on earth these two characters with such seemingly insurmountable differences would ever fall in love. Pick up your own copy of Lightning And Lace today. $9.97. 317 pages.
