Title: Lightning And Lace Author: DiAnn Mills Publisher: Barbour ISBN: 1-5978-9357-9 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Fiction
Bonnie Kahler is a widow, and overwhelmed by the enormity of her loss. She has three children, but can’t cast her sorrow aside long enough to care for them. Even more shameful, Bonnie has started to drink the wine provided for her by Lester Hillman, banker, and a married man. Michael Paul and Lydia Anne, Bonnie’s two younger children are doing fine, but thirteen year old Zack is a rowdy, undisciplined troublemaker. Bonnie can’t control him.
Travis Whitworth ahs just arrived in town as the new preacher. He will replace Reverend Rainer, Bonnie’s stepfather, who is retiring. Travis interrupts a fight between Zack and another boy, which upsets Bonnie. He isn’t married and he crosses a prominent church member who is one of their biggest contributors. Not a good beginning. In addition, he lost his last church because he got involved with a woman. Travis and Bonnie can’t seem to find anything they can agree on, but they are united in their desire to help Zack.
Lightning and Lace is the conclusion of DiAnn Mills Texas Legacy series, and she ends it on a high note. Bonnie and Travis have a lot to overcome before they can think of romance, but love has a way of breaking down barriers and overcoming obstacles. A satisfying wrap up to a delightful series. Strong hero’s, courageous heroines, and a strong message of faith and love.
