Will Mullett made a mistake. A grievous error that causes Will to be shunned by his Amish family and friends, unless he confesses. His father is angry at him and Will can never to live this down. So after dark, he sneaks out the bedroom window and runs away. He’s nineteen years old, and the world is waiting for him.

Life isn’t as easy as he imagined. World War II is going on. The Amish are conscientious objectors. But, living on the run, Will can’t be Amish anymore. He has to assume a new name, a new identity, and a new way of living. So why would he object to war? Will enlists in the Army and heads off to fight for his country.

Years later, Will wants to return home. But home is . . . where? Will his father ever forgive him? What about the other people that Will’s decisions hurt?

Levi's Will is a story about an Amish boy who becomes English and searches for his identity. It is loosely based on a true story. I found it easy to identify with Will, though, at times, I wanted to shake him, sit him down, and explain to him what exactly might happen if he makes this decision or that. But since this is a character, and not real, I didn’t have that option and just had to hope that everything would come out all right for Will at the end. Levi's Will is a deep story about men and their relationships with their fathers and their faith.

Levi's Will is a bit confusing at first as it jumps back and forth from present to past. I think in a way, it would have been easier reading if it was written chronologically, but Mr. Cramer did an excellent job tying the past and present scenes together as seamlessly as possible. Pick up Levi's Will for another unforgettable read by W. Dale Cramer. $13.99. 394 pages.
