Title: Lethal Deception Author: Lynette Eason Publisher: Love Inspired Suspense ISBN: 978-0-373-44280-5 Genre: Inspirational/romantic suspense Release Date: February 2008
Cassidy McKnight promises her missionary friends that if anything happens to them, then she’ll step in to raise their young daughter as her own. But collecting the toddler from the jungles in South America seems impossible. Even after an uneventful arrival, when Cassidy calls a cab something goes dangerously wrong. She is kidnapped at gun point and forced to go with her captures deeper into the jungle.
Former Navy SEAL Gabe Sinclair didn’t want to go back to South America. Not since his last blotched mission, which leaves his friend, and Cassidy’s brother, supposed dead. But how can he not go to South America to rescue Cassidy? After all, he’s promised her brother he’d look out for her.
Rescuing her isn’t going to be easy though. Even getting her out of camp seems virtually impossible. How can Gabe save Cassidy—and a child—from killers?
Lethal Deception is a well written romantic suspense. Cassidy is strong and feisty, determined to get her way, and used to getting it. Gabe seems a bit weak, giving into demands too easily at first, but he grows on me as the book progresses.
Gabe is struggling with a faith issue while Cassidy has her faith act together. I hoped the two would make it out of the hostage camp alive and be able to rescue Cassidy’s “child.” Lethal Deception is good for a few hours reading. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. I’m looking forward to reading more by this talented author. $5.50. 246 pages.
