Genre: Inspirational/Romance

When Reporter David Carlson is assigned to do a story on the literacy center where Erin Kelly works, she is shocked at her reaction to the handsome man with a playboy reputation. She doesn't want to work with him, much less like him. But David seems far different than his reputation. He's friendly, funny, and even has some of the same interests as Erin. But an event in Erin's past has left her unable to trust men, especially men like David Carlson.

David is attracted to Erin Kelly from the first moment he meets her. She's nothing like the flirty bimbos he normally dates. She has a quiet quality about her that makes him crave spending more time with her. When he comes up with a story idea that requires Erin's help, it provides just the opportunity he needs to get to know her better. There's only one problem. Erin is a Christian, and because of David's past, he wants nothing to do with Christians.

When Erin learns David has no desire to be a Christian, she struggles with what to do about their developing relationship. But God's word is very clear: a Christian shouldn't be yoked together with an unbeliever. Though it breaks her heart, she tells David any future contact must be purely professional. David is stunned, but shouldn’t he be happy since he wanted nothing to do with Christians in the first place?

Lessons From The Heart is a different kind of a romance. I found David and Erin's struggles to be very realistic, and my heart ached for them both. Christians know they shouldn't date or marry a non-believer, but what happens when you accidentally fall in love? This is what Erin has to deal with. Does she allow herself to be ruled by her heart or does she obey God's word, even if it costs her the man she loves? Lessons From The Heart is an emotional ride.

Author Dorothy Clark tosses in a mixture of humor to give the reader some relief. The faith message is strong in this book, and shows how Christians often struggle with real life. One part I especially liked is where David regrets falling for a Christian, but his friend tells him, it’s because Erin is a Christian that David loves her. Readers won't be disappointed with Lessons From The Heart, a heart-tugging, faith-inspiring romance. ($4.99. 250 pages)
