Title: Last Resort Author: Hannah Alexander Publisher: Steeple Hill ISBN: 0-373-78540-2 Genre: Inspirational/Romantic/Suspense Twelve-year-old Carissa Cooper was sent out to the family saw mill to collect an old ledger for her father—but never returned. Searchers believe she was abducted—possibly by a close family member or friend. Noelle Cooper has a gift. When Carissa goes missing, intuition tells Noelle and she heads home to Hideaway, Missouri, to help find the girl. But soon it becomes apparent that the curse that haunts the family is more than meets the eyes. Because someone is out to kill Noelle now, too before she learns the truth.
Nathan Trask is a former pastor, but now he works as a pharmacist. He’s loved Noelle forever and is quick to offer his friendship when she returns to Hideaway. But his love isn’t enough to keep Noelle out of danger—and might even put his own life at risk.
As soon as Last Resort arrived in my mailbox, I glanced at the first chapter and was instantly captivated. I had to keep reading to find out what happened next. I came to care deeply for Carissa, Noelle, and Nathan, and hoped that they would find the person behind all the trouble in the Cooper family. A string of murders in the family has already occurred and seem unlikely to end unless someone stumbles across the truth.
I was unable to read this book straight through, but I wish I’d been able to as I couldn’t stop thinking about it and trying to figure out who might be the murderer/kidnapper. There are some unexpected twists in this book, but I did figure it out before I was halfway through.
Last Resort is a book I highly recommend. It has mystery, suspense, romance, and enough medical information to keep even medical thriller lovers entertained. Discussion questions are included at the end. $12.95. 315 pages. | |
