Jenny Martin is on a mission. Her sister, Jessica, is dead, leaving behind a young daughter. Rebecca is two years old, and is now the adopted daughter of Grant Andrews, the town doctor, and the man Jessica entrusted with taking care of her baby. Although Jenny’s upbringing was strict and emotionally cold, she is sure her parents will love their granddaughter.

Grant realizes Jenny wants to take Rebecca back east, but he is determined to keep the little girl he loves as though she were really his own.

Aubrey Turner arrived on the same train as Jenny. He tries to pass himself off as her protector, but she doesn’t know him. Who is this mysterious stranger and what does he want? She feels he is stalking her. As Jenny and Grant struggle to reach an agreement on the little girl, rumors begin to spread around town and Grant is afraid for Jenny and Rebecca’s safety.

DiAnn Mills has written another intriguing, suspenseful, historical romance, with a twisted plot that will keep the reader guessing. Lanterns and Lace is a good follow up to her Leather and Lace. If you like historical romance, you’ll want both books in this series.
