Title: Land’s End Author: Marta Perry Publisher: Love Inspired Suspense ISBN: 0-373-87372-7 Genre: Inspirational/Romantic/Suspense
St. James Island, Georgia, is a vacation paradise that holds secrets. Doctor Sarah Wainwright is drawn back to the island to discover the secrets behind her husband’s death almost a year earlier. Rumor has it, he died in a lover’s tryst, but Sarah can’t believe that of her husband.
Trent Donner’s wife, Lynette, died with Sarah’s husband, and he is quick to squelch any possibilities of a rumor cropping up about Lynette’s death. After all, he has a young daughter he needs to protect. He doesn’t want an investigation into Lynette’s death opened up at this time. He even made up a story to give police and reporters about why Lynette was there so there could be no possibility of an investigation.
When Trent discovers Sarah is on the island, he does everything in his power to get her off, even having her kicked out of her motel room late at night and sent back to the inland. But Sarah has a few tricks up her sleeve and she fights Trent tooth and nail to find what she needs to know. Who is behind the deaths? Will Sarah be able to find out before her own life is in danger?
Land’s End is Ms. Perry’s second Love Inspired Suspense, and it is a winner. I couldn’t help but care for Sarah as she hunts for answers, and yet I felt for Trent as he had concocted a safe answer to the questions and was content to let matters lie. He couldn’t understand why Sarah would want to open old wounds. It would only hurt every one involved.
The setting is described excellently, and the faith message is expertly woven in. Readers will have to keep reading Land’s End to find out who did it as there are several red herrings. Land’s End is the perfect book to tuck into your purse and read during your free moments. It is not to be missed. Discussion questions and a preview to Ms. Perry’s next Love Inspired Suspense are included at the end of the book. $4.99. 252 pages.
