Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Romance

When Farmer Sam Jackson left his small homestead in the Oklahoma Territory to journey into town to buy corn seed, he never expected to meet the woman he'd one day marry, but the moment he set eyes on young Nessa Long, Sam knew she was 'the one.' From then on, Sam worked hard to make his homestead comfortable for Nessa to live in. His corn fields were ripe for the harvest and Sam felt sure he'd make the money he needed to improve his ranch and provide for a wife, but a freak storm dashed his hopes.

Nessa Long has dreams of living in a fancy home, but then she meets Sam, a poor farmer. Though Sam doesn't have much, Nessa knows he's a hard worker and a kind man. When he asks her father's permission to court her, Nessa is delighted, even if it means the end of her dream.

Sunday is about the only day Sam has to spend time with Nessa. He eagerly looks forward to his few hours with the gal he loves, but sometimes, Nessa is out of sorts with him. Sam is clueless as to what makes her tick. Some days his patience wears thin and he wonders if marrying Nessa is the right thing to do. Will the two young lovers work out their problems or go their separate ways?

Sam is the perfect hero. A kind, gentle man, filled with love, patience and faith. He's a good provider and willing to wait until Nessa matures and is ready for marriage. He's a great friend to Hank, even at time when Hank is less than a friend. At times, Nessa seemed like a little girl in her behavior, but as the story progresses, we see her grow and mature.

Labor of Love shows the hardships and struggles of those carving out a life in the Oklahoma wilderness. The story chronicles Sam's life and that of Nessa's family. Though the book is not too action-oriented, it held my interest to the end. Arlene J. Warner gives readers a sweet romance and a candid look at life of the 1800s in Oklahoma Territory. Though the book has a hefty price of $17.99, readers of historical romance won't be disappointed. I only wish there had been an epilogue to give us a glimpse of Sam and Nessa down the road. Pick up a copy of Labor of Love for a heart-tugging romance that will stir your faith.
