Colleen Frederick’s husband has passed away, and her son, Jamie has no desire to run the family shoe business. He wanted to go into the music field, but was discouraged to do so, now he’s looking into joining the military. Colleen doesn’t want him to do that either, so she asks him to join her on a trip to Ireland to celebrate Christmas before he joins.

Both Colleen and Jamie are harboring secrets – secrets which could destroy the fragile relationship they have. But this trip to Ireland forces the secrets to the surface—and could ruin whatever headway the two of them are making…

An Irish Christmas is another winning Christmas story by award winning author Melody Carlson. I didn’t like Jamie at first as he seemed highly unfocused, but as the story progressed I liked him more. Colleen was a lovely woman, but she wasn’t very understanding toward her son, and it seems they should have been, considering what comes out later in the story.

All in all, An Irish Christmas is a beautifully written story and I enjoyed the opportunity to read it. Published in hardcover, it will make a welcome addition to anyone’s Christmas stocking, and is an enjoyable afternoon’s read. $14.99 hardcover. 189 pages.
