Title: In Between Author: Jennifer B. Jones Publisher: Think Books (an imprint of NavPress) ISBN: 978-1-60006-098-4 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Juvenile/Fiction Katie Parker doesn’t expect life to be
fair. After all, her mom’s in jail, and her dad’s abandoned her years ago. But
she’s adjusted to living in the orphanage, and will make it just fine—at least
until she discovers she’s being sent to live with a foster family in In Between,
Texas. Katie is shocked and horrified to
discover that her new foster family is a pastor and his wife, and their dog that
must way at least 500 pounds. This can’t be good. Katie isn’t sure where she
fits into this crazy new life, but she’s almost positive it isn’t with her
foster mom’s crazed mother, and the bunch of churchies her new family springs on
her. It’s just a matter of time before her new
foster parents give up on her so Katie decides she might as well speed things
up. But what if God has other ideas? In Between is positively cute. This
sixteen-year-old drama queen pulls on heartstrings, making adult readers want to
pull her into their arms and love them. I enjoyed every moment of this book, and
will be putting it on my keeper shelf for my daughters to enjoy.
Katie is a realistic heroine, and I loved
some of the secondary characters, like Katie’s foster grandparent. Even the dog
has personality. Ms. Jones did a stellar job on In Between and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series, On the Loose, available now. $12.99.
346 pages.
