Title: In Between Author: Jennifer B. Jones Publisher: NavPress ISBN: 9-78160006-098-4 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Juvenile/Fiction
Katie Parker didn’t really like the Sunny Haven Home for girls, but at least she was used to it. Then Mrs. Iola Smartly broke the news she was leaving, getting new parents. Make that Foster parents, pretend-o-parents, as Katie called them. Her new destination was a town called In Between. And wasn’t that a strange name for a town?
Her new parents, James and Millie Scott, seemed okay, but Katie knew they didn’t really want her, and she doesn’t want them. Millie, who evidently isn’t aware of Katie’s no-hug policy, is a big-time hugger. James looks like a football player, only older. Katie is sure he really doesn’t want her.
Since she doesn’t expect this arrangement ot work for long, Katie sets out to make the Scotts give up on her and send her back. She uses some very creative tactics, but somehow, the Scotts don’t seem to catch on. To make matters worse, they have Rocky, the largest dog she’s ever seen. Katie doesn’t like dogs. They slobber, and they smell. Rocky excels at both.
Katie Parker grabbed my heart and walked all over it. She made me laugh, made me cry, and left me yearning for more. This one’s a keeper.
