Title: A Higher Justice Author: James Scott Bell Publisher: Bethany House Publishers ISBN: 0-764-22646-0 Genre: Inspirational/Historical /Legal/Fiction
As lawyer Kit Shannon is motoring down the streets of Los Angeles, a young boy runs out in front of a trolley and is tragically killed. Wanting to help the mother recover from her grief, Kit soon finds herself up against a network of powerful railroad men and politicians, all of whom seem to have something to hide!
Mousy Malloy is in prison for attempted murder. He swears he’s innocent and calls for Kit to represent him. Kit normally doesn’t take on cases unless she believes the accused is really innocent, but Mousy’s story tugs at her heart. Agreeing to take on his case, she is soon overwhelmed by the opposition she keeps running into.
Why doesn’t the mayor care about the death of the young boy? What are the railroad people trying to hide and how is the barkeeper involved? Time and time again, Kit keeps being drawn back to the bar, but there is nothing to be found.
A Higher Justice is the second book in the Trials of Kit Shannon Series. While A Higher Justice easily stands alone, I wanted to rush out and find the first book in the series so I could read that too. The courtroom scenes are especially gripping. Kit Shannon is a lovely character that the reader will quickly come to care about. This is the first book I’ve ever read by James Scott Bell and he is now one of my new favorite authors. I can’t say enough good things about this book. This book is a must read for fiction lovers everywhere. | |
