Church secretary Becky Tate has her hands full trying to work and take care of her absent-minded Aunt Effie. She doesn’t even have time to greet the new interim pastor because a neighbor calls and tells her that Aunt Effie is up on the roof. Becky rushes home to save Aunt Effie from a fall, but matters quickly get worse when the new pastor shows up in their driveway to see if he can help. Effie is instantly suspicious of him and wants Becky to hide. Instead, Becky almost falls off the roof.

Logan is not your typical preacher. He is a private investigator trying to prove that Becky was actually kidnapped years earlier and that Effie is the kidnapper. Logan is convinced that he’s on the right trail, but in spite of warning himself to keep his distance, he can’t help but be intrigued by the sassy red head.

When someone shows up obviously stalking Becky, Logan has his hands full to keep from being arrested himself. Can he prove that Becky was kidnapped years earlier and still keep his heart?

Her Brother’s Keeper is set in northern Arkansas and has a lot of the local color in it. I enjoyed reading a book set where I live remembering some of the true life events that are shared in the story. Becky is your typical southern gal, friendly, talkative, and upbeat, and could be anyone I meet on the street. Logan is trying hard to fit in in an area that doesn’t take kindly to strangers—especially ones from the big city.

There wasn’t a whole lot of suspense in the story. Logan was pretty straight-forward about what he was doing, except with Becky. Still, I enjoyed every minute of this book. Bravo, Val! I’m looking forward to reading more by this talented author. $4.99. 251 pages.
