Title: The Heart's Homecoming Author: Merrillee Whren Publisher: Love Inspired ISBN: 0-373-87324-7 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Romance Youth minister/coach Sam Lawton thought he’d gotten over Jillian Rodgers, but when she walks back into his life after a game and asks to talk, he isn’t sure how he feels. Still, he agrees to join her for dinner and a long-overdue conversation about why she jilted him eight years earlier. Jillian Rodgers was young when Sam wanted to marry her, but now that her mother is ill and she’s forced to return to her hometown to care for her, she is convinced she wants her old fiancé back. But Sam doesn’t seem as willing as before. Jillian goes the extra mile to be alone with Sam every chance she gets, but Sam doesn’t seem to be swayed. When Jillian learns about another woman that Sam loved, Jillian thinks she knows why Sam won’t love her now. Will she be able to win Sam’s love? Or has the other woman already won? The Heart's Homecoming is a sweet romance by new author Merrillee Whren. I fell in love with Sam; he is a hero with a heart, hardworking and caring. I sympathized with him completely as he juggles his careers, his family, the youth, and his past. Jillian didn’t pull at my heartstrings the way Sam did. Jillian seems used to having whatever she wants handed to her, but I had to admire her tenacity as she fights for her relationship with Sam. Still, The Heart's Homecoming is a good story. It kept my interest all the way to the end of the book. Readers will not be disappointed in this story. $4.99. 243 pages. | |
