Title: Hearts Afire Author: Marty Perry Publisher: Steeple Hill ISBN: 0373874162 Genre: Inspirational/Romance
Firefighter paramedic, Terry Flanagan, is an impulsive, compassionate woman who hasn’t been gifted with an overload of patience. Her heart is touched by the plight of the migrant worker, particularly the young girl, Manuela. She wants to open a clinic to help them.
Dr. Jake Landsdowne is assigned by the hospital to oversee the clinic. Two years ago, Terry and Jake were embroiled in a situation involving the death of a young woman. The resulting fallout almost destroyed Jake professionally and sent Terry scurrying back home feeling like a failure. Jake has one goal, to get his career back on track. Unfortunately Terry seems determined to derail his plan for success. Jake has been described as six feet of frost with icicle eyes. Can Terry and the rambunctious Flanagan clan melt the ice in his heart and set him free from his past?
Marta Perry, author of many books, has a gift for pulling the reader into the story. Readers who follow her series about the lively Flanagan Family will welcome the story of Terry and Jake. The book has a serious thread running through it. The plight of migrant farm workers in America is a situation ripe for exploiting. People with no recourse for justice are locked into a lifestyle they have no hope of escaping.
In Hearts Afire Marta Perry does an excellent job of emphasizing this problem. This book is a good addition to the series about the Flanagan’s, and one you won’t want to miss. |
