Title: Healing Tides Author: Lois Richer Publisher: Love Inspired ISBN: 978-0-373-87468-2 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary /Romance
Dr. GloryAnn Cranbook wanted to go to Hawaii to work at the burn hospital only so she could learn this certain technique that Dr. Jared Steele perfected. She agreed to serve at this hospital for six-months, and then wanted to take her newfound knowledge home with her to Alaska. Unfortunately, when she arrived, Dr. Steele was no longer doing this procedure…
Jared had lost his family when a young boy died after this technique is performed. The grieving father retaliated by murdering Jared’s wife and young son. Jared has vowed to never do the surgery again.
Bennie no longer has a family, and his healing would greatly benefit from Jared’s surgery. GloryAnn breaks the rules by falling in love with this orphaned boy. However, GloryAnn is getting on Jared’s last nerve. Can they agree on anything, let alone a young boy’s treatment plan?
Healing Tides is the first book in Lois Richer’s Pennies From Heaven series, and it is one of the better books I’ve have the privilege of reading lately. Two conceited doctors, each convinced that their own treatment plan is best, are at each other’s throats. Add a precocious young boy, and a surgery that he needs, yet the doctor who does it has ceased performing it and you have a winner.
GloryAnn and Jared are both realistically developed as are some of the secondary characters. I also enjoyed ‘seeing’ the scenery in Hawaii. Make sure you don’t miss this book. Discussion questions are included at the end. $5.50. 247 pages.
