Dr. Ian Russell is used to being summoned in the middle of the night to some poor person’s bedside. His reputation is that he’ll take any patient, regardless of ability to pay. So when he’s called to the bedside of a woman who attempted to abort her baby, he is quick to respond.

Eleanor Neville is thankful that the doctor responds so quickly to her friend, and co-worker's bedside. But she is less than impressed that he mistakes her for a prostitute, and seems to think she can drop everything to nurse her friend. Eleanor goes out of her way to try to find a good nurse, but no one can be found.

When the beautiful Eleanor approaches Ian about a nurse for her friend, he promises to help her try to find one. But the two must work together to save the woman’s life. Eleanor’s own life isn’t as stellar as the doctor’s. Could a woman with her notorious past find love with a Christian doctor?

The Healing Season is Mrs. Morren’s third book, and it grabbed my interest from the first page. The writing style is fresh, the faith message is woven in as a vital part of the story line, and the setting supports the story. I grew to care for Eleanor, and just enough of her past was brought out at a time to keep my interest, and curious about what she’s done, and how it was resolved. Ian is a good hero, kind and considerate, if a bit judgmental, but that is an excellent character flaw.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Healing Season and look forward to reading more by this talented author. Fans of historical romances will not want to miss this Steeple Hill women’s fiction offering. $6.99. 443 pages.
