Title: Hard Evidence Author: Roxanne Rustand Publisher: Love Inspired Suspense ISBN: 978-0-373-44271-3 Genre: Inspirational/Romantic /Suspense
Janna McAllister is trying to make a new life for her and her young daughter after a nasty divorce. She hopes to open up the resort that her dad used to run years earlier but it has fallen into disrepair. She’s stunned when a man and his son show up for an extended stay, claiming they have reservations.
Michael Robertson is trying to make a new life for himself after his teen son and wife are in a car accident—killing his wife, and severely injuring the boy. He takes a temporary job as a sheriff in a small town when the regular sheriff goes on vacation.
When a skeleton is discovered shortly after Michael’s arrival, suspicions fly. Will the body hurt the resort? Is the killer still hanging around? Could Janna’s life be in danger?
Hard Evidence is the debut Love Inspired Suspense novel by Roxanne Rustand, and the first in the Snow Canyon Ranch series. Ms. Rustand is an accomplished author of several previous books published in a different line. Janna and Michael are realistic characters, and I must say that Ms. Rustand really has the teen boy attitude down pat. She could have been writing about my own teen son. Excellent characterization!
The suspense line is strong, but I guessed early on who the murderer was—so no big surprise there. Also, the faith message is not very strong. I do like the idea of the story centering around three sisters struggling to run a ranch, resort, and an ill mother. All in all, I really enjoyed this book. It was a great read.
