After the tragic death of her husband, Captain Ahab, Hannah and her son, Timothy, seek to distance themselves from the vicious rumors surrounding her husband’s accident. Hannah plans to flee to Europe, to give the vicious stories time to die, but well-meaning friends in Boston convince her that now is not the ideal time to travel. She is needed in Boston.

Hannah changes her last name to protect herself and Timothy and settles in with a friend. When an old school friend offers to rent a house to her while she stays in Boston, Hannah agrees. But then she finds herself unwittingly in the middle of the underground railroad. When a suitor accidentally stumbles upon a run-away slave, will Hannah protect the slave or will she betray the operation?

To Hannah’s surprise, she has two men pursuing her affections. Both seem to be good men—but they stand on opposing sides of the slavery issue. Will Hannah find love with the whaler, Captain Lazarus, or with Naval Captain Longwood?

Hannah Rose is a delightful historical romance full of intrigue. Readers will be anxious to discover which man Hannah will choose—and on which side of the slavery issue her loyalties will fall. Hannah Rose held my interest all the way through, and I was sympathetic to Hannah’s situation, although I thought she was a bit over-clingy with her young son.

Even though Hannah Rose is book two in the Ahab’s Legacy series, it easily stands alone, although readers might want to read the first book, Ahab’s Bride, to find out where Hannah is coming from. Book three, Son of Perdition, is scheduled for release in 2006.

Look for a copy of Hannah Rose at your favorite Christian bookstore. You won’t be disappointed.
