Title: The Guy I'm Not Dating Author: Trish Perry Publisher: Harvest House ISBN: 0-7369-1872-8 Genre: Inspirational/Chicklit
Kara Richardson’s been hurt in the dating game and has decided to give it a rest. From now on, she’ll take time to get to know a guy, just be friends, before doing anything serious, like dating. Then she meets Gabe Paolino, the most gorgeous man she’s ever acted stupid in front of, and living with her new no-dating guidelines becomes a tad more difficult.
Instead of being scared away by Kara’s determination not to date, Gabe is harder to lose than a summer cold. He even offers to drive Kara to Florida to see her parents. Of course, he has to take his teenage brother, Ricco and Ricco’s twin sister, Rachelle back home, plus Jake, Rachelle’s boyfriend. They invite Ren, Kara’s best friend to go with them. Tiffany, a sultry, blond, vamp, who has her eye on Gabe, invites herself to join the party. They also agree to pick up Addie, Kara’s elderly relative, who insists they go by and get Lurlene, Addie’s eighty year old baby sister. The van is filled to capacity, and that much togetherness wears on everyone’s nerves. However, Addie is up to the challenge, keeping them all in line.
I can’t believe this is Trish Perry’s first novel. The Guy I’m Not Dating is warm, humorous, and fast paced with a strong Christian message, and a great cast of characters. If I make it to eighty, I want to be like Addie, and I think I’ll start practicing now.
