Marcus Glenwood is a man with nothing to lose. He’s already lost everything that he holds dear. A tragic accident has stolen the lives of his two precious children. His ex-wife, who was severely injured in the accident, is suing him for everything he owns. Once a cutthroat attorney racing up the corporate ladder of a prestigious law firm, Marcus resigns from the firm and flees city life to the small town of Rocky Mount, where his grandparent’s raised him.

But Rocky Mount is not a place to rest. The only white face in a sea of black, Marcus discovers his grandparent’s neighborhood radically changed. An unlikely ally and friend emerges in Deacon Wilbur, the pastor of a local black church. Racial barriers fall as Marcus is welcomed into the aging pastor’s congregation. Marcus begins to feel a prick of hope that the ever-present weight of his past could somehow be lifted. Though he will never forget his children and how the accident forever changed his life, the pain is beginning to diminish.

Gloria Hall was working on her master’s degree at Georgetown University in labor relations. Her research on New Horizons, Rocky Mount’s largest employer, was making waves. Gloria suspected New Horizons of using forced labor at Factory 101 in China. Nothing short of a trip to China will satisfy her.

Austin and Alma Hall are parishioners at Deacon Wilbur’s church. When their daughter, Gloria, disappears Marcus Glenwood is the man they turn to for help. But Marcus isn’t sure he is up to taking on the internationally known New Horizons. Marcus does some preliminary nosing-around and is nearly injured in a suspicious accident. When he keeps probing, he is attacked and ends up with a broken arm. Rather than back off, Marcus suspects there’s more to this case than he first thought. He goes on the offense and agrees to take the case. But he has no idea how wed-spread the dangerous web he has stepped in is.

The Great Divide is a gripping courtroom drama of international intrigue and cutthroat business. T. Davis Bunn weaves a thrilling, suspenseful story that you’ll find difficult to put down.
