Title: Grace Notes Author: Dandi Daley Mackall Publisher: Zonderkidz ISBN: 0-310-71093-6 Genre: Inspirational/Juvenile/Fiction
Gracie Doe is invisible. At least she feels that way. Her only friend is her step-sister, Mick. Everyone at school ignores her, like they can’t see her. Gracie’s only outlet is her blog where she feels free to write about everything that’s happening in her life. She uses fake names for everyone so her identity is secure.
Then a new girl named Storm came to school. She’s immediately part of the popular crowd and always has a bit of trivia about everything. Storm is everything Gracie is not, and Gracie unwisely makes a few of Storm’s comments on line. Soon someone has figured out that someone at Gracie’s high school is writing the blog, and they let Gracie know that they will figure her identity out.
Gracie is scared. Will her identity be found out? If it is, will she be able to make friends? Or will she be able to continue hiding in an invisible world?
Grace Notes is a cute book for girls ages 8 – 12. My eleven year old girl can’t wait for me to finish reviewing it so she’ll be able to read it. Gracie could have been me when I was in junior high. I really identified with her. I hoped she’d have the courage to come forward and talk to her parents about her blog and her fears.
The faith message is expertly woven in and isn’t preachy. The setting could be any small town. The characters are realistically developed. Grace Notes caught my interest from the beginning and held it. This is a great book for tweener girls and one I’ll let my girls read. $5.99. 111 pages.
