Title: God With Us: A Walk Through The Gospels Author: Margaret Montreuil Publisher: Xulon Press ISBN: 1-591-60719-1 Genre: Devotional
God With Us: A Walk Through The Gospels is a lot better than I was expecting. Thinking it would be a common devotional, I was surprised to find that this book really packs a wallop.
There are six parts to each of the devotionals in God With Us. It starts with the normal, a set apart Scripture text, telling us about the chapter’s theme. Then it continues on to a list of related references that the reader can choose to look up if they want to study more about the time and happenings. The author includes poems, imaginative stories, and reflective questions in the third and fourth sections, designed to get the reader thinking. Then the reader is asked to think things over and record in a journal entry their thoughts and prayers about the devotional.
God With Us is book one of a two-book set. The second book is called God In Sandals. The two books are designed to be read consecutively. While reading God With Us, I was forced to think about things I’ve never considered. What was it like to raise Jesus as a young boy? Was Mary overwhelmed sometimes by the task of raising a perfect child when she was imperfect? How did the observers feel when they saw John the Baptist baptize Jesus and watched the Heavens open with God’s blessings on Him?
God With Us takes us through each of the key events in Jesus’ time on earth and brings them into the focus of the reader. You will not easily forget the things you learn and think about while reading God With Us. This is a book for the keeper shelf, especially if you might be called upon to lead devotions in a church group. |
