Title: Giver of Roses (Book one of the Guardians of Galdiel series) Author: Kathleen Morgan Publisher: Revell ISBN: 0800730941 Genre: Inspirational/Fantasy Giver of Roses proved yet another fun read for me. It has strong knights and brave ladies, treacherous villains and unexpected allies. And the book begins where most books might have ended, a trick of the trade I found most intriguing. Not only is Galdiel in trouble, her hero is in grave danger on the first page! And the very thing that might save him, he has rejected utterly. So begins the this delightful tale. Everything seems completely hopeless for a good portion of the story; Morgan does an excellent job weighing the odds against Vartan and Danae, the male and female leads, Vartan, the mighty, proud son of the king and Danae, a captive who served his wife. Just to top things off, a tragedy leaves Vartan convinced any attempt to save Galdiel is hopeless, and he quickly becomes a stubborn, proud, unwilling hero. Giver of Roses is very much an epic story, and the ending is definitely not what I was expecting. The twist left me very glad it’s the first of a series, or else I might have thrown the book. Some parts are utterly heart-wrenching; others determined to make the reader laugh. This book definitely keeps you reading. It has romance, suspense, action, and tense emotions. Sometimes you really just want to knock these two upside the head, other times they might make you cry. Giver of Roses was a real treat.
