Title: Georgia On Her Mind Author: Rachel Hauck Publisher: Steeple Hill Books ISBN: 0-373-78574-7 Genre: Inspirational/Chicklit
Macy Moore was voted “most likely to succeed” when she graduated from high school, and until 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 6, she was a corporate executive on the fast track, with a marriage-material boyfriend, and a cool city condo. But by noon, she demoted…and dumped.
Macy’s job is given to a relative new-comer to the business, and she is shuffled down to the bottom of the sales team, and given all the yucky jobs that no one else wants. When Macy sends her resume out to a head-hunter, her boss fires her. Now, Macy has no income (but she has a $2,000 purse!) and no boyfriend. Her dad offers her a job working for the company he built from the ground up, but how can Macy go home again? Especially after she worked to escape from Beauty, Georgia. Will her best girlfriends help Macy get her life back on track?
Georgia On Her Mind is the first book I’ve had the opportunity to read by this talented newcomer, and I hope it won’t be the last. Macy is real, with hopes and dreams like the rest of us, and it hurt to see them crushed. She has a wonderful cast of friends and there is a really sweet moment in the book that almost made me cry.
Even though the story starts a bit slow, the book soon won my interest, and I couldn’t put it down. The faith message is expertly woven in, the setting is well-described, and the characters very well developed. Georgia On Her Mind is not a book you’ll want to miss. Discussion questions are included at the end. $13.95. 307 pages.
