Quitting school never looked so good to Melody Rowland. Four years ago, when she was but a freshman, James Michael Goodwin completely humiliated her when she performed for the seniors in the master class. Now, the horrible man is going to be her personal piano instructor for her final three months of college. She’s never forgiven him for the pain and embarrassment he caused her.

Once on top of the world as an internationally known concert piano artist, James Michael Goodwin has now played his last concert. A crippling disease curled his long, talented fingers into gnarly, enfeebled appendages. Suicide seems the only option left to him. But then James meets his beautiful protégée, Melody Rowland, and his whole world changes.

Four years have changed the cocky celebrity and Melody can’t deny the sparks of attraction that ignite every time she is around her handsome instructor. But can Melody move past the hurt James caused her and discover that just maybe God has brought James into her life so she can help heal his wounded spirit?

Janet Butler has composed a symphony of words in her novel, From The Ashes . Her musical education and experience resonate in this charming tale of one concert pianist in the winter of his career passing the baton to another in the budding spring of her career. The musical thread of this story is even illustrated in the heroine’s name, Melody. Despite their rocky beginning, the sparkling chemistry between James and Melody make it difficult to put this book down. This tale of a man who has lost all hope but finds healing and love is a definite winner. I highly recommend From the Ashes .
