Debra Patterson lived the perfect life...or so she thought. Married to handsome and successful attorney, Michael Patterson, Debra lived a charmed life. They'd recently moved into their luxurious dream home, and they had a young son and daughter-the perfect family.

A shopping trip to the mall turns into a nightmare when Debra leaves her eight-year-old son, Chad, and five-year-old daughter, Lauren, at the entrance while she races for their car in a torrential downpour. When she returns minutes later, her children are gone. After a frantic search, Debra reluctantly calls her husband with the news. She is stunned to discover her husband never showed up at work.

As Debra tries to make sense of her husband's betrayal in abducting their children, things just keep getting worse. Her only light in the darkness is her friend Jill. But Jill is a Christian, and Debra wants nothing to do with the God who would allow a husband to deceive his wife and steal her children. Will Debra ever be able to trust another man? Will she ever see Chad and Lauren again? And will she make peace with God or continue fighting Him?

DiAnn Mills steps into a whole new arena with her latest book, a thrilling suspense called Footsteps. I couldn't put it down. It starts out with nail-biting suspense that continues throughout the story. My heart ached for Debra. At first, she seems like a wimpy wife, catering to her husband's every whim and afraid to stand up to him, but there's a depth to her that no one is aware of until she walks through troubled waters. Debra's metamorphosis is completely believable as it comes about slowly and revolves around her developing faith.

Ms. Mills tackles the tough subjects of spousal abuse and child abduction and handles them well. Debra's grief will have you reaching for tissues; her successes will have you cheering out loud. I remember one intense scene where I actually put my hand on my chest when I realized how fast my heart was beating.

The faith message is a powerful statement of God's redemptive power and His ability to hold one's hand through the darkest of events. Footsteps is one book you won't want to miss. I predict this one will win some awards.
