Title: Flee The Night Author: Susan May Warren Publisher: Tyndale House ISBN: 1-4143-0086-7 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Fiction Lacey Montgomery’s life is spiraling out of control. She’s on the run, blamed for the death of her CIA agent husband. She has developed the Ex-6—the world’s most advanced on-field encryption/decryption system for the Department of Defense—and someone wants it and is willing to do anything to get it. Emily, her six-year-old daughter, has been kidnapped and will be killed unless Lacey betrays her country and gives the kidnapper the Ex-6. There is only one man on the planet who she trusts—and that man believes she is a murderer. Jim Micah once loved Lacey—back when they were innocent high school friends. But when Lacey married his best friend John, Jim felt betrayed. Ever since, he’s tried to fill the Grand Canyon size hole in his heart by becoming a Green Beret and helping and rescuing those in need. Now, fifteen years later, Lacey has contacted him for help. Oh yeah, he’ll help. Help her find her way to a jail cell. He knows this phony daughter story is just a way to play on his sympathies. Lacey never had a daughter. He would have known. But as Jim looks Lacey in the eye, the desperation he sees shakes him to the core. Only a mother—or an expert liar—could look so devastated. When Lacey escapes her hospital bed and the guard outside her door, Jim has no choice but to follow. Will he find Lacey and bring her back to stand trial for John’s murder? Or will he discover Lacey truly has a daughter whose life is in jeopardy? Susan May Warren’s fans will not be disappointed with her latest book, Flee The Night. She’ll have you quickly hoping that Lacey can’t possibly be as wicked as Jim and the authorities believe. And Jim Micah’s character is so realistic that he practically stomps off the page and dares you not to believe in him. He’s the ultimate hero we all wish we had in our lives—tough, strong, loyal, and with a faith in God that consumes him. The conflict in Flee The Night will have you riveted to your seat. In the very beginning, I had a little trouble figuring out what all was happening, but the action took off like the drop of a five story rollercoaster and pulled me along for the ride. With both government agents and heinous bad guys chasing Lacey, she has only one person to turn to. Jim Micah is the man Lacey would gladly have married if he had only asked. But he didn’t, so she married his best friend. Now fifteen years later, she must face Jim Micah and plead for his help. The tension between Lacey and Micah (as she calls him) is electrifying. You’ll be rooting for these two even though everything seems to be against them. The secondary characters strongly help move the story along, and you’ll meet the members of Team Hope, a search and rescue group, who will appear in future sequels. Be sure to grab yourself a copy of Flee The Night, because you won’t want to miss the explosive beginning of Susan May Warren’s Team Hope series. ($9.97, 326 pages)
