Title: Fireworks Author: Elizabeth White Publisher: Zondervan ISBN: 0-310-26224-0 Genre: Inspirational/Romantic/Suspense
Insurance investigator, Susannah Tait, needs to prove that pyrotechnics genius Quinn Baldwin is responsible for a million-dollar fireworks catastrophe during Mardi Gras. After all, the insurance company doesn’t want to pay out a large settlement if Quinn is guilty of insurance fraud. Even though the fire inspector has ruled it accidental, the insurance company has received a letter stating that Quinn set explosion off on purpose.
Susannah moves to the charming city of Mobile, Alabama, to try and discover the truth. There she discovers that Quinn seems to be the model of perfection. He’s friendly, and apparently beyond reproach. As Susannah moves into Quinn’s circle of friends, she discovers that even the competition has nothing against Quinn.
Soon, Susannah decides that Quinn is everything he says he is. But evidence has shown up that the explosion has been rigged. There are only traces, but they are there. If Quinn didn’t do it, then who did?
Fireworks is truly an amazing piece of writing. I fell in love with Susannah and Quinn and instantly related to each of their troubles. As a misplaced northerner living in the south, I also instantly related to Susannah’s culture shock as she tries to fit into a land of sweet tea and sweethearts. I could see the setting, the faith message was expertly woven in, and the characters were real. My only complaint is that the book ended. I would have liked to have kept reading.
Fireworks is wonderful story, and I can’t wait to read more from this amazing author. Her next book Fair Game, is due out in Winter 2007. Fireworks is going on my keeper shelf to be read and reread. $12.99. 314 pages.
