In
A Fine Line,
Kathy Herman takes readers on an ardent, suspenseful ride in the final
book of The Baxter Series.
Charlie Kirby has it all-faith in God, a beautiful wife he loves dearly,
seven great children, wealth, and a prestigious job as mayor of Baxter.
Then why is he so tempted by Sheila Paxton's flirtatious advances?
Shelia came to Baxter to finalize plans for the new Thompson Tire
Corporation, which Charlie believes will turn the town's distressed
economy around. But many townsfolk are upset that the company will hurt
local businesses and destroy the town's quaint charm. Some people are even
willing to slander Charlie's good name with dark rumors in hopes of
stopping the tire plant from coming to Baxter. If only Charlie had known
the repercussions of one small indiscretion, he'd never have gone down
that road. Now, he's in danger of losing his wife and family.
When newspaper editor, Ellen Jones, receives a hot tip after Shelia
Paxton's murder, she can't help pursuing it. She soon finds herself
embroiled in an FBI investigation with an assassin on her tail. Her
snooping caused her to deceive her husband and has resulted in the deaths
of innocent people. Will she be next to die? And could this assassin and
the events surrounding Charlie's plunge from grace be connected?
Suspense, deception, heart-breaking choices, and God's redeeming grace
abound in A Fine Line,
the fifth book in The Baxter Series. Kathy Herman does a masterful job
showing how even a strong Christian family man isn't immune to the
temptations Satan throws his way. Readers will see how what some might
call a minor indiscretion can destroy everything a good man has worked for
his whole life. And when the good man is down, his true friends are
revealed and not ashamed to stick with him.
A Fine Line
is a powerful message of how God can redeem a hopeless situation and turn
it into something good. The huge cast of characters comes alive and each
one is clearly written. Short scenes in various points of view enhance the
suspense of this fast-paced novel. Readers won't be disappointed, except
to see the end of this exciting series.
The Baxter series has been a dynamic heart-tugging, faith-inspiring
journey. I, too, hate to see it come to an end, but at least it goes out
with a bang. Readers can eagerly look forward to reading more about Ellen
Jones and her husband Guy in Kathy Herman's next series, The Seaport
Series.
