Title: Fair Game Author: Elizabeth White Publisher: Zondervan ISBN: 978-0-310-26225-1 Genre: Inspirational/Romance
Jana Cutrere is coming home. Her ex-husband is dead, and she’s left with two young children and a dream. She hopes to open a clinic for wild animals. Jana has worked long and hard for her veterinarian license, and she has applied for a federal grant—all she needs is her grandfather’s land.
Grant Gonzales has his eye on some land that he needs to open his hunting lodge. If he can’t get the land he needs, the only access he’ll have to his current property will be by boat—not convenient for hunters at all. But Jana’s grandfather seems to be reneging on his verbal promise to sell his land to Grant.
Grant hopes to win Jana’s help to convince grandfather to sell the property to him, but how can he stand in the way if the old man wants to deed the property to his granddaughter? But deadlines are drawing near and no decision has been made. Who will win the prime land?
I’ve been looking forward to reading Fair Game since before it was out, and I was not disappointed. Jana and Grant are complete opposites (proving opposites attract?) and I couldn’t for the life of me see how these two polar opposites would ever end up together. Grant trophy hunted and mounted his prizes for all to see while Jana was prepared to give up her life for wildlife.
Characterization is very well done, with a technique missing in many books. The faith message is expertly woven in as an important part of the storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed Fair Game and highly recommend it. A sample chapter of Off the Record is included at the rear of the book. $12.99. 350 pages.
