Title: Expect the Sunrise Author: Susan May Warren Publisher: Tyndale ISBN: 1-4143-0088-3 Genre: Inspirational/Romantic/Suspense
FBI agent Stirling “Mac” McRae is on a sabbatical from the FBI to recover from his brother’s untimely death, a result of a accident with on a fishing trip. Burke is killed when Mac believes he sees a terrorist attempting to blow up the Alaskan pipeline. He is mistaken, and his mistake costs the government the surveillance they had on the real terrorist cell in that area.
Andee MacLeod is a mountain rescuer and pilot. She spends summers in Alaska with her father and flies hunters and tourists (among others) into the remote region of Alaska she calls home. Mac and several others were on this final flight. When her plane goes down on her final trip of the season, Andee’s best friend, Sarah, is with her and Sarah is critically injured in the crash. Andee is desperate to get help before Sarah dies.
After the plane crashes, Mac discovers terrorist information on the plane when he is searching for supplies that Andee needs. Mac believes that Andee possibly might be a terrorist and he refuses to let her leave the camp, fearing she’ll blow up the pipeline.
Andee needs to get help for Sarah and doesn’t want to carry Sarah down the mountain, with all the other passengers on the plane accompanying them. After all, it’s better to wait with the plane so rescuers will find the survivors more easily. But no one has come looking for them, and she knows she’s only about 30 miles from home. Will Mac trust her enough to let her go? Or must Andee take the entire camp with her?
Expect the Sunrise is book three in Susan May Warren’s Team Hope series but it easily stands alone. I think Expect the Sunrise is easily the best book in this entire series so far. I enjoyed the book thoroughly, until the end, when, unfortunately, it seemed the ending was rather contrived.
The faith message is expertly woven in, and I enjoyed seeing Mac’s return to faith on this adventure in the wilderness. I also liked that another passenger on the trip is a missionary. The characters are very well developed and seemed to come to life. A chapter is included at the rear of the book of one of Ms. Warren’s earlier books in the Deep Haven series. Pick up Expect the Sunrise today for a truly unforgettable read. $11.99. 282 pages.
