No amount of training prepared John Wells for Spring 2011. John is a Naval airman facing retirement. His dream, to make it into NASA, has just been realized. John’s wife feels more than a little unhappy about giving up her beloved life in Maine to move to Texas, but she is willing to let her husband have a shot at his dream.

While stationed in the space station, John notices a strange explosion on Earth. Terrorists are striking America. All the bridges connecting Washington DC have been destroyed, disconnecting the nation from its capital. An attack has been made on the White House, and other key government buildings across the nation have been eradicated.

Americans blame the Middle East, but sudden images off the coast of Mars offer a staggering alternative. When an alien culture is confirmed on the Red Planet, the United States government tries to decide its next steps. John Wells finds himself caught in a web of politics, his family life torn, and trying to serve both God and his nation. Will John be able to make the choices necessary to help his family and his country survive?

The Evidence is book one in the Mars Hill Classified series. It is very definitely a military type story, with lots of action guaranteed to please readers who love adventure. Set in the not to distant future, it is also futurist, with the author taking liberties on how he perceives the world will be in five more years.

My thirteen-year-old son couldn’t wait to get his hands on this book as this is the type of story that appeals to him. I was not so favorably impressed. While the story is well written, and the faith message is expertly woven in, I’m not a huge fan of futurist stories which prejudiced me against The Evidence from the beginning. However, my son loved the book and would love to read the rest in the series. He found the characters realistic, the plot exciting, and the book captivating. $12.99. 416 pages.
