Title: Elementary, My Dear Watkins Author: Mindy Starns Clark Publisher: Harvest House Publishers ISBN: 978-0-7369-1487-1 Genre: Inspirational/Mystery
Jo Tulip’s life has been turned upside down. Her house has been burned to the ground, and she’s suffering from a sprained ankle. Her long time friend, and now fiancé, Danny, is in Europe, finally realizing his dream to work as an apprentice at a major magazine.
Then Jo gets an email stating that her life is in danger and she needs to go to the police. On the wake of this, Jo’s former fiancé, Bradford, shows up, saying the same thing. Not only that but he says he was paid to marry her. Jo is floored by this, and isn’t entirely sure that Bradford is safe, but when someone shoves her in the path of an on-coming train, Jo believes Bradford. Especially since he caught her and threw her back on the platform, taking the serious injuries himself.
Danny’s life in Europe couldn’t be better. His work has come to the attention of a renowned photographer, and he’s been offered the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only that, but another magazine is vying for him to come work for them. Could these events possibly be tied in with the attempt on Jo’s life? How? And who’s behind it?
Elementary, My Dear Watkins is the third and final book in the Smart Chick Mystery series. Readers will want to read the books in order in find out the complete story behind Jo and Danny’s romance, but it isn’t necessary as the events in Elementary, My Dear Watkins completely stand alone.
Jo and Danny are realistic and loveable characters, and even the secondary characters are sympathetic. I loved Jo’s grandmother. Even as the family matriarch she was a sweetheart while ruling with an iron fist.
I thoroughly enjoyed Elementary, My Dear Watkins and read it all in one sitting. I couldn’t wait to see how the different story lines all tied together—and find out who was trying to kill Jo. $12.99. 310 pages.
