Title: Echoes of My Heart Author: Lori Morrison Publisher: Writers Club Press ISBN: 0-595-09994-7 IInspirational/Historical/Romance Echoes of My Heart follows Miranda Shannon's journey into adulthood in Post-Civil War Indiana. After reading Florence Nightingale's book on nursing, she decides to train as a doctor's assistant, a choice that changes the course of her life. A family friend, Riley, has been waiting for Miranda, and she knows he wants to marry her. But she hesitates, wondering if there's more for her. Miranda befriends young Dr. Kincaide Foster and Janie Tibbs. Because of the panic of 1873, Miranda watches her father take a job in the mill owned by Janie's aunt, which causes strain on her friendship with Janie. The more Miranda's world expands, the more difficult choices she faces. Should she give up the "easy" choice of marrying Riley, or give up her dream of being a nurse? Does she stand by and watch Janie contemplate making a foolish decision in love, or should she intervene and risk losing Janie's friendship? And what about her growing feelings for Kin Foster? Lori Morrison paints a vivid picture of a young woman finding answers to life's questions by learning to pray and listen for God's direction. The action-packed conclusion of this story leaves plenty of room for a sequel.
