Kale Alleron, an o’rant slave from the small town of River Away, finds a dragon egg and is sent to The Hall in Vendala for training. Before she reaches her destination mountain grawlings take her captive. During the night, Kale escapes and stumbles into a cave where seven more dragon eggs await her. She carefully ties the little treasures into her scarf for safekeeping.

The next morning, a small band of servants from The Hall come to Kale's rescue on great dragon steeds. But nothing turns out the way she planned. The rescuers lead her away from The Hall to go on a perilous quest to snatch a rare meech dragon egg from the evil Wizard Risto.

When one of Kale’s traveling companions is captured by evil creatures, she has to muster up as much courage as she can to help save her friend. To make matters worse, the first of the dragons hatches, right on the heels of her friend’s capture. How can she protect it?

The quest takes Kale and her companions into the very heart of Risto’s stronghold.  Through a series of adventures, Kale discovers more about herself than she bargained for. Why do people keep calling her “The Great Dragon Keeper”? And why has the brave warrior, Paladin, called her to his service?

Dragonspell pulled me into the story from the first paragraph, and couldn’t put this book down until the very last page. I adored the little dragons Kale hatched, and I wish I could have one of my own. Dragonspell is as good as Lord of the Rings.

Donita K. Paul has woven together just the right mix of adventure and humor. If fact, this story deserves to be a movie. I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages. I eagerly await her next installment!
