Out-of-work school teacher Constancy Grace Stafford doesn’t feel well, and stumbles to the kitchen for an aspirin and a glass of water. However, when she arrives in the kitchen, a man she’s never seen before is sitting at her kitchen table…dead. Too stunned to scream, and not trusting the local police, Constancy does the only thing she can think of— she calls her old friend, who also happens to be a state trooper, Danny Egan.

When Danny arrives, there is no body to be found in Constancy’s apartment. She is freaked out, and since she never saw the body leave her apartment, wonders if she imagined the whole thing. Danny’s attitude is less than helpful, accusing her of making up a body just so he would come over. But upon further investigation, Danny concludes that a body was at the table.

Constancy is engaged to be married but doesn’t feel comfortable asking her fiancé for help. Danny concludes that someone is looking for something Constancy has – especially when her apartment and her deceased Grandmother’s house are searched. What could they be after? Who killed the man and planted his body in Constancy’s apartment—and where did it go? Will Constancy learn that appearances may be deceiving?

Dark Diamond Reel is the sequel to Constancy’s Waltz, and readers will want to read that book first as Dark Diamond Reel is a continuation of the story. I enjoyed re-acquainting myself with Constancy and Danny and settled down for a gripping read, since I thoroughly enjoyed Constancy’s Waltz. I wasn’t disappointed. From the moment Constancy discovered the body in the kitchen I was hooked by the fast action and the non-stop adventure.

Lovers of mystery will not be disappointed in Dark Diamond Reel. I had a hard time deciding who the villain was in the story, and there were plenty of red herrings to keep me guessing. I did feel that Constancy was too trusting of people, especially in light of all that was happening. Dark Diamond Reel is definitely a book that demands attention. $12.95. 247 pages.
