Beth McCasland is recovering from the death of her husband five years earlier, and struggling to make ends meet to support herself and her five-year-old daughter at her waitress job. A co-worker pays her way to an Ashton Raines concert, and for the first time, as she listened to Ashton sing, Beth felt that someone understood.

Ashton’s beloved wife has just recently died, and he’s struggling to get through the grief. Some days he doesn’t think he can do it anymore. He tells his managers that he needs a break after a Denver concert and he takes off on his own. Destination unknown. Stopping at the first open roadside café, Ashton cries into his coffee, remembering the good ole days.

Beth is sympathetic to the poor man sitting at the table, and orders a meal for him. She even offers a listening ear. The two strangers share their sorrowful tales and Beth gives him her phone number. Ashton tells her his name is Timothy. She never dreams he’s the singer she listened to mere hours earlier. Ashton calls Beth several times, and soon a friendship begins. Can Beth help Ashton get past his pain?

Cowboy is the first book in The Harmony Series. It is written okay, and doesn’t have any main problems. The faith message is expertly woven in. Even though I don’t care for books that start with death, and don’t like books where they fall in love on the rebound, one can’t help root for them and hope they get past their pain.

The faith message is not preachy, and the setting is not intrusive. Cowboy is a good story about giving everything to God and how an act of compassion can change a life forever. It will help you look at your current relationships with new eyes. $22.00. 316 pages.
