Title: Cooking With Hot Flashes (And Other Ways to Make Middle Age Profitable) Author: Martha Bolton Publisher: Bethany House Publishers ISBN: 0-764-20002-X Genre: Inspirational/Nonfiction/Humor
With a title like Cooking With Hot Flashes, I thought this would be a cookbook of sorts. Instead it’s a book for women over forty who are experiencing the weird tricks their bodies are starting to play on them.
In a humorous way, Martha Bolton talks about exercise—and explains how three sit-ups actually count! Tells us that we are allowed to talk to ourselves—even if we aren’t wearing a headset. And reminds us that when people hold the door open for us, we get in line in front of them.
Martha Bolton also has some suggestions for musicals, movies, and songs—such as Annie, Get Your Girdle, Hey, Dude, Where’s my Teeth?, and Put Ben-Gay on my Shoulder. And gives ideas on how to reinvent the game of football so we’d actually be able to understand it.
I laughed out loud as I read through Cooking With Hot Flashes and could relate with some of the things that are happening. I really didn’t find anything to complain about in this book. It is funny enough to be kept on the keeper shelf, probably—although it’s geared to such a small amount of women.
Pick up a copy of Cooking With Hot Flashes if you are close to—or over—forty. You’ll be sure to relate to the stories and humorous tales, and chuckle all the way through the book.
