Title: Circle of Seven Author: Bryan Davis Publisher: Living Ink Books ISBN: 0-89957-172-7 Genre: Inspirational/Fantasy
I do believe Circles of Seven is my favorite thus far. When I picked up Raising Dragons I didn’t realize Davis was only warming up, and each successive book turned out to race along faster than the one before it!
Some of my comments for the series, I’ve saved for Circles of Seven, which is why The Candlestone review seemed so short. I have to admit, Circles of Seven is well worth the wait. The way Bryan Davis engages symbolism fascinates me. It’s different, unique, and leaves fresh images on the mind.
Billy and Bonnie have battled slayers and overcome fear, but now they’re going to have to take on the Underworld itself, in a weird, cryptic version of Hell not too far from Dante’s Inferno. The seven circles are seven dimensions of the same world, and here, perception is everything. The two teenagers need all the help they can garner for this one. The story is full of tragedy and gut-wrenching choices they’ll have to make. Can they ever find what they’re looking for, or will they even be able to find their way out again?
This one’s painful—meaning there are some strong, powerful emotions in there. This is their journey into darkness. Just remember what you learned in the light.
Easier said than done.
Circles of Seven left me wishing the fourth book, Tears of a Dragon, was already on the shelves. But I can’t complain too much; I didn’t have to wait for the first three. No disappointment, ladies and gentlemen, this one’s a reader. |
