Title: Circle of Honor Author: Carol Umberger Publisher: Integrity Publishers ISBN: 1-591-45005-5 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Romance
Gwenyth Comyn has a choice. An assailant brutally raped her the previous night. Now, her host has presented her with the man accused of the rape. A man Gwenyth knows is innocent. Her choice is difficult. She can either accuse her guiltless enemy, Adam Mackintosh, of the vicious assault, or she can tell the truth and remain in captivity to her actual attacker. Telling the truth would ensure bondage for herself and would dishonor Adam—possibly even securing his death. Gwenyth’s decision is made even more difficult by her attraction to the kind-hearted, chivalrous Adam.
Circle of Honor takes you back to the time of Scotland’s war for independence from England. Robert the Bruce has destroyed Gwenyth’s family and home, and her lands and titles have been stripped from her. The brutal assault she suffers leaves her wondering where God is when she needs Him. Struggling to maintain her faith in God, Gwenyth must face the battle between her desire for revenge and her growing love for Adam. Her fate, and Adam’s, rest in her decisions.
Fourteenth-century Scotland is not a place I willingly go in my reading, but Ms. Umberger did a superb job in capturing my interest and holding it. I started this book late in the day, thinking it’d be easy to put down since most historical books are for me, but I found that this story was so gripping it was next to impossible to close the book! I wanted to see what would happen next! Even though there is a lot of brutality in this story, it is a wonderful read. I look forward to reading more by this author. Circle of Honor is a must for your reading list.
