Christmas Sleigh rides – the tradition harks back to the days when life moved at a slower, softer pace. Two people, snuggled together under a warm blanket, conversing in the crisp winter air . . . .

" Colder than Ice" by Jill Stengl: After the death of her mother, Estelle Truman decides to take her brother up on his invitation to live with him and his family. Arriving without warning, she accepts a secretBook Antiqua job from the local pastor, Frank Nelson. Estelle had frozen her emotions since the tragic war-time death of her fiancé. Will Frank be able to help her thaw out enough for her to accept his interest?

" Take Me Home" by Tracey V. Bateman: Kathleen Johnson reluctantly leaves behind her family to take a job as school teacher for one term. When that obligation is fulfilled she plans to return home to stay. Coon’s Hollow, Iowa, turns out to be much more rural than she expects, and the students are rowdy. Josh Truman fell in love with Kathleen the moment he laid eyes on her. Will he be able to convince her to stay?

A Christmas Sleigh Ride reminded me of the days of Laura Ingalls Wilder—when she was teaching and either her pa or Almonzo would come to pick her up in a sleigh to take her back home. It is fun reading about Kathleen and Estelle and their different reasons for coming to Coon’s Hollow. Estelle is prickly and rebuffs any attempt at friendship from anyone except a cat. It is fun watching her develop into a fun-loving person. Kathleen is an outgoing individual, making friends with the unlovable.

Both stories in Christmas Sleigh Ride are excellent. I’d have a hard time choosing my favorite, if I were asked. With winter coming, A Christmas Sleigh Ride is an excellent book to pick up. It’ll also make a fantastic Christmas gift for any romance lovers on your shopping list.
