Title: The Christmas Children Author: Irene Brand Publisher: Love Inspired ISBN: 0-373-87244-5 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Romance
Carissa Whitmore wanted to spend the holidays someplace wintery. So she arranged to exchange houses with another woman who wanted to spend her winter in Florida. Arriving late at night in Yuletide, New York, Carissa is stunned that the town is not decked for Christmas. Nobody has any decorations up anywhere. When she arrives at the house, she is surprised to find the house warm and the television on. Further investigation reveals the back sliding door has been jimmied. Has someone broke into the house? Are they there still?
Paul Spencer is arriving home to his sister’s house in Yuletide after being overseas a year. He’s an engineer and is looking forward to visiting his sister and spending the six weeks at home relaxing. He’s surprised to open the sliding door and find a boobie trap set for him. He’s even more surprised to recover from that attack only to be hit over the head with a fireplace poker. Who is this wild woman in his sister’s house and why is she attacking him?
Three children are hiding in the pantry. Who are they? Where did they come from? Why is the town so anxious to keep them around for the holidays? Will Carissa and Paul be able to help the town redeem itself from an unfortunate incident that happened years ago and recover the Christmas spirit?
Paul is an adorable hero. Hurt badly by a woman he once loved, he has taken jobs overseas to avoid American women. He is wonderful and kind. If I were single and looking, I’d be interested in him. Forced into staying with Carissa he is finding himself very attracted to her. Carissa’s mother was a prostitute and everyone always told her she would end up just like her mother. Afraid of love, she rebuffed men effectively, until she met Paul. Her attraction to Paul scares her. Will she be able to get past her fear?
The Christmas Children is a fun book by award-winning author Irene Brand. It is easily read in one setting. I found The Christmas Children really enjoyable and it made me eager to get my holiday decorations up. As we enter the Christmas season, The Christmas Children is the book to pick up. It will be sure to warm your heart.
