Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Romance

Though Christmas is quickly approaching, widow Anna Hannack has little holiday cheer. When her father-in-law drags in an unconscious stranger, what joy Anna has disappears. If not for her Christian charity and the fact that a blizzard rages outside, Anna would have left the stranger to manage on his own. With a unfamiliar man in the house, all Anna's fears are magnified. How could God let this happen to her again?

Ian Sutherland is grateful to be alive, even if the woman caring for him is more frigid than the snowstorm covering everything outside. He's determined to do nothing to encourage her fears or suspicions of him. As he begins to get better, Ian does minor chores around the farm. Anna seems determined to be rid of him, but when her father-in-law takes ill, Ian knows he can't leave her and her young children to care for the farm alone.

The longer Ian is around, the harder it is for Anna to remain aloof. Could it be that God is giving her a second chance at love? Just when she's ready to give her heart to Ian, Anna learns the horrible truth about him. How could she have opened her heart only to have her new love crushed under the weight of Ian's heinous past?

The Christkindl's Gift is a medium-sized hardback book that packs a wallop. Anna is bitter and hurting from her husband's death, and because of the circumstances surrounding his death, she doesn't trust strangers. So, what does God do? He sends her a badly beaten stranger to care for. The Christkindl's Gift is the story of a woman who must move out of her comfort zone to find the wonderful gift that God has for her. As with any major issues in life, this isn't an easy task.

Author Kathleen Morgan does an excellent job showing Anna's anger, hurt, and her struggle. I loved Ian's character. His Scottish burr is to die for, but his strength of character and patience in the midst of Anna's cold treatment is inspiring. Then there is the children's heart-warming letter to the Christkindl.

Readers are certain to fall in love with The Christkindl's Gift. It would make a wonderful gift or addition to a Christmas gift basket.
