Paige Winsome has grown up in the shadow of her more athletic brother and her academic sister, and feels as if her talents are easily overlooked, especially when she is passed by for a spot as lead singer with her church youth choir. When she gets a chance to compete as a singer/songwriter in a competition for a $400 prize, Paige sees it as her ticket to stardom. Not only that, but the prize money would help the animal shelter that Paige has a heart for in her town.

Kate Kennedy is a pastor’s daughter. She receives plenty of praise for her talents, but her family struggles to make ends meet. If she wins the $400 grand prize, she would be able to help her family out so they wouldn’t have to accept so many hand-me-downs.

When Paige and Kate meet, they become instant friends. But what happens when they discover they are both entering the same contest? Each girl knows that winning the contest is an answer to her prayers . . . but will their friendship survive? After all, only one can win. . . .

Even though Chopstick is the second book in the Friends for a Season series it easily stands alone. I took a little longer to get into Chopstick than I did Island Girl, the first in the series, but still Chopstick is an enjoyable read. My ten-year-old daughter couldn’t wait for me to finish this book so she could read it, and she loved every page.

The author has developed realistic characters who were almost as real as my daughter’s friends, and the faith message is expertly woven in but isn’t preachy. Pick up Chopstick today for your favorite tween girl today. $9.99. 256 pages.
