Title: Chocolate Beach Author: Julie Carobini Publisher: Bethany House ISBN: 978-0-7642-061-2 Genre: Inspirational/Momlit/Women/Fiction
Brianna Stone has it all. A sweetheart, surfin’ teenage son, a house on the beach, the man of her dreams, and a chocolaholic best friend, plus a wonderful job a a Southern California tour bus host.
But in one day it seems her world starts falling apart. A friend turns into a know-it-all, her husband has been seen running around in his mid-life crisis convertible on the other side of town, and her mother-in-law has decided they need to sell and is looking for the perfect upscale property for them. Not to mention that her husband, Douglas, seems to be working much longer than usual hours.
Brianna is stunned when she finds emails from Douglas’ mother to Douglas which indicate that Douglas is less than satisfied with a flip-flop wearing beach bum for a wife. Brianna tries to reinvent herself, but will she be able to recapture Douglas’ heart?
CHOCOLATE BEACH is Julie Carobini’s first novel and it’s a winner. I wasn’t real sure what genre to call this as it didn’t seem to be pure chick lit or mom lit, but an unique combination of it’s own. The writing is stellar, the storyline interesting, the setting appealing, and the characters are loveable.
Even though Brianna seems a bit too laid back at times, it’s apparent she’s all heart and cares deeply for those she loves. Written in first person, the reader still easily gets to know Douglas and their son, as well as the other secondary characters. I loved this story. It caught my attention from page one and held it to the end. $12.99. 334 pages.
